But this 'Eastern art' rule does carry some implications, even besides that which the OP mentions.

If 'Eastern art' means 'manga/anime style art', then that would wind up excluding some art that comes from the East, including some from Japan. Traditional shunga, for example. (Which includes at least one example of tentacle sex; google 'Dream Of The Fisherman's Wife'.)

BUT, we run into an even bigger problem if we are going by the 'art originating from the East' definition.

The drawing threads are then therefore a violation, since it's doubtful that all artists in said threads are residents of an Eastern country.

There is also the vagueness surrounding the word "Eastern" itself. Conventionally, if the International Date Line bisected the planet, it would spllit it into two hemispheres, "Eastern" and "Western", as the OP suggests. However, this isn't specified, which is a problem. You see... location shares a trait with velocity, in that it is relative. Without a specific point "Eastern" can mean anywhere. To China, Japan is "Eastern", to Japan the U.S. is "Eastern", to the U.S. Spain is "Eastern", and so on. Without a specific point from which to work, "Eastern" can literally mean anywhere depending on how many times you want to travel around the globe to get there.

It's a pretty good point. I mean if some guy on the ISS got bored and decided to start drawing porn to occasionally get beamed back down to Earth, you can't even really count it as Eastern or Western. If anything the rule only promotes a silly sense of hemisphere-spanning nationalism. Rather pointless for porn.

What needs to be done is splitting boards based on actual art style, but many good artists mix and match elements from other styles, meaning that splitting wouldn't even be a solution since a given piece can be categorized as "Anime styled", but originating from a western artist...
