I'm trying to make myself a controller to use for Street Fighter. I bought a wired xbox 360 controller and disassembled it to get the PCB from it. I originally did this 2 years ago, and housed the controller in a shoe box. Everything worked great. However, this eventually wore down, and i'm trying to rebuild it in a sleek aluminium hobby box. I drilled holes and put the buttons in, then soldered wires from the PCB to the buttons. All of the buttons work fine. I was pretty much done, so i glued everything in place, using a piece of cardboard as insulation between the case and the PCB. After finishing and closing it all up, i opened Street Fighter to give it a test. Any time my hands are in contact with the box, it automatically fires the two xbox360 shoulder triggers. The other buttons all had one wire to the relevant PCB location (black), and another wire to the grounding (red) The two shoulder triggers were different to all the other buttons. These had two locations i had to solder wires to, and also required a capacitor (i think thats what its called?) on one of the wires. The problem seems to happen intermitently. Sometimes i can touch the box, and its fine, others times not. I've reopened it, and moved the PCB further from the casings, but its still happening. There's no exposed wires that are touching the box. Please help.

>>892519 Thanks. I spoke to my dad today, and he mentioned that maybe i need to connect the case to the ground of the PCB. Giving that a try now.

>>892449 Why are the solder joints covered in glue? Even a bad joint will be more mechanically robust, and it makes rework messier.
>>892493 When nothing is driving an input, it is said to be floating. Floating inputs will pick up electrical noise from the environment, and you've helpfully attached a long antenna wire to make that even easier. If the open switch is supposed to be at Vcc add a pullup resistor, if it's supposed to be at GND add a pulldown.

>>892864 This seems to have fixed it.
Thanks for your input everyone.

Sup /diy/? I have a leak coming from my dishwasher. It is caused by picture related. Do you know what this is called? I am trying to find it online but I keep getting routed to door leakage. Is this easy to fix?

Last one. Had to take the door off for the new gasket. That thing was a bitch. The first time running it, it dripped a few more times. I am guessing the gasket needed to swell for its first use? I wanted to throw this thing in the detroit river when I saw that. The only issue I was was a couple of water lines behind here. I have no idea how a few water droplets gets in here. But all wiring looked great and covered, so a few drips wont kill it. So thank you to the peeps in this thread for all help. I do appreciate it. All in all it was a little over $30 and a few hours to save a few hundred. And to anyone reading this, clean your dishwasher. Im sure the pumps will love you for it, and your dishes will be a lot cleaner. Mine sure are.>pic related

for what it's worth this is why I tell every last one of my customers to clean their dishwasher regularly with dishwasher cleaner... they never listen... and yes... it cannot be unsmelled... also you don't have to take the door off to change that gasket.. it's just a pita to get it back into place....

Should I try to build an extreme AA battery charger /diy/? Any tips on how I would go about it? I can purchase a 15-minute charger with fans to cool the batteries, but what I'm thinking is, how much faster would I be able to charge them if I jacked up the current and increased the cooling? Good idea or no? Am I mental?
Anonymous
>>892434 Liquid cooling is bound to be a bit better than a fan though, no?
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>892436 In the best case, you would be able to use an already existing fast charge circuit and make it so that it doesn't completely destroy every battery plugged in to it.
Think of it this way. What happens when you pour ice water in to an empty but already hot coffee pot? The bigger the temp difference, the more likely it is to shatter. Charging a battery faster (and making it hot) then cooling it more aggressively is much worse for the battery than charging it slowly and never exposing it to extreme heat or cold.
Anonymous
You could use a peltier cell to cool the batteries. the batteries could seat in a metal battery holder with a peltier cell under it. the peltier needs to be cooled tho. you could make a sandwich out of this idea with two half holders and two peltiers. FRY THOSE BATTERIES FOR SCIENCE

>>892604 Peltier coolers aren't nearly as effective as you think
Op you need to get a mineral oil bath with full radiator pump system
The batteries will be oily when you take them out but you may be able to charge them in seconds

with how quickly you're going to destroy those batteries it'd be better and cheaper to just buy a bunch of lithiums.

Hey guys, I saw the second Purge movie and got really inspired by this specific mask and seeing as Halloween is around the corner I figured I'd give it a go! I want to make my own mask but with a design similar to this. I wanted to have one word at the top, something ominous like "Run" or "Death" or something like that. I want the general design to be something simple yet ominous. I don't know why but it just seems really creepy and it's exciting! Can anybody with experience or any ideas recommend some stuff like colors, what type of mask, words or phrases etc.? Any help is appreciated!

get a couple pieces
start with something low number like 40 then progress at no greater than 100 in number until it is smooth as you want it to be
smaller the progression easier the sanding will be
likely 200 is as smooth as you will want to get

My shitty third floor slumlord apartment has old knob and tube wiring in it. So it obviously has no grounds. I don't want to fuck up my computers, so I'm trying to ground an outlet in one room. There is a cast iron fire escape just outside the window that is stuck directly into the earth. I drilled and attached a solid 12ga insulated earth wire to it, and ran it in a small hole I drilled in the window frame. I used this wire to ground a new GFCI outlet I installed. It all checks out electrically, and my computers work fine.. But is this safe long term? I've asked, the landlord will not rewire..

>>892757 Im in US on 120. The computers dont zap too bad, just feels "tingley". But the microwave....that fucker gives me a good poke if I bump it just right while its running. Touch the case with inside of your wrist...that should feel a little more substantial :D

>>892748 >>892757 >>892758 So, you're telling me that all atx psu's are in a constant state of ground fault? I don't think so. If it were, you wouldn't be able to use an ATX PSU on GFCI protected circuits, and I've never heard of that. I'm going to rig up a GFCI extension cord and test with my comp. Maybe it's an induced voltage from the coil in the PSU?
Anyways, you guys might not think much of what's going on, but you're playing with fire potential. Uncontrolled voltage can cause uncontrolled current, across gaps, which is called an arc, which start fires because of how hot they are. "Electrical arcs produce some of the highest temperatures known to occur on earth, up to 35,000°F (19,426°C). This is 4 times the temperature of the surface of the sun which is about 9000°F (4982°C)"
http://www.ctdol.state.ct.us/osha/Breakfast/Archives/02-18-14/Handouts/Distributed0218/ElectricalContractors/Arc%20Flash%20Fast%20Facts.pdf If you can afford a bank of computers you should probably invest in a good battery backup as they also perform line conditioning. At the very very least you should get your shit GFCI protected. You can do this without changing your house wiring.

Forgot to say, small currents can kill the shit out of you. In fact, sometimes they're worse because they don't destroy cells and therefore conduct through you longer than a high voltage transmission line would because it would vaporize cells quickly and those cells would no longer provide a path.
http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2000/JackHsu.shtml And for those of you that are thinking "It's never hurt me before", that's kind of like saying "I've never been saved by a seatbelt or I've never been in an accident driving after a few beers, so I don't need to worry about it now."
My point is that it is a real hazard and you should take it a little more seriously than some of you do now.

Lets just say i no longer leave my computers on or even connected to the outlet when i am not using them.
I also moved my computers away from the radiator so there is no chance of me touching both at the same time anymore.

Seeed, ITead, OSH Park, Dirty PCBs. I'm sure there's more. If you're ordering from China, don't pick the cheapest shipping, or you may spend over a month waiting for your boards.
