House Cleaning

No.883397 ViewReplyLast 50ReportDelete
Let's talk about cleaning, consider this a wake up call to those oblivious to neglected aspects of their house and then, perhaps, discuss DIY cleaning methods.

I'm going to bring up some areas of your house and on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being completely filthy and 10 being immaculately clean, you have to tell me how clean these parts of your living space is. Write a note alongside it explaining details if you desire.

Bathroom sinks
Bathroom tub/shower
Bathroom toilet
Bedroom
Hallways
Living Room
Kitchen, in general
Kitchen sink
Kitchen stove (on the surface, sides, and underneath)
Refrigerator (inside, surface, and underneath)
Windows and window sills
Hard-to-reach crevices throughout your house
Garage
Front porch
Sides of the house
Backyard

Keeping your house clean should be a priority. The condition of your living space is a reflection of how you are as a person.

Reconsider the designs of your living space. Hard-to-reach crevices are the devil, they make more work for you and are great places for dust to collect. Don't butt your furniture against the wall, always leave enough space so you could push a vacuum cleaner behind it.

Hi /diy/, maybe someone here can help.

My 2nd-hand exercise bicycle (pic related, Proform 748 EKG) doesn't change resistance levels, only shows the change on the display, and is mechanically stuck on the first one; this is accompanied by a constant, repetitive knocking sound from the inside.

After some prying, the sound comes from a small box near the flywheel(?) [the larger back wheel that supplies resistance to the one you spin with the pedals, via a strap]; the box constantly pulls and releases a short cord (like a real bicycle's break cord), that is attached to this resistance wheel, in what I assume would normally control the resistance level.

Batteries for the dash are new, and the motherboard looks clean, all electronics connected and soldered and nothing seems burnt or broken. I suspect the mechanism. any ideas what might be going on here?

Hey /diy/, I have some questions about finishing wood. I've been researching around but I haven't been able to find the answer i'm looking for.

I am going to be making a box out of laser cut 1/8" luan or meranti plywood. I know these materials don't look the nicest, so I was planning on staining/finishing them. The problem is that I know nothing about how to stain or finish wood.

What do I need to add a finish to the plywood? A stain, varnish, etc etc...
Which order do I apply them to the wood?
Should I finish the wood before or after cutting the pieces? I am worried that it will make the wood warp if I only finish one side of it.

Any suggestion is appreciated. I'm really close to just making it out of acrylic because I haven't a clue how to make the wood look nice.

HOW DOES I ENCODER?

No.882725 ViewReplyReportDelete
OKAY, I have this rig(pictured)

wire passes through, the grey thing takes optical measurements of it. whenever the wire is outside of the tolerances set by the measurement program it makes a note and logs date and time to the second.

I need to figure out a way to hook up an encoder to one of the wheels and get the thing to give me a length at time data output.

any ideas?
for reference, I learned what an encoder even was less than a week ago...

I have soldered a thin metal plate (about 2mm thick) on another metal plate (about 6mm thick) with arc welder. Unfortunately, the thick plate has bent, and cannot be mounted anymore... What to do anon ? Try to weld on the other face to unbend it ? other ? How should i have proceed to not have this bending ? Pic related
