How to make a cell phone "quiet box?"

No.894332 ViewReplyReportDelete
I basically want to make a (portable) soundproof container that I can put my cellphone in so it can't pick up any and I mean ANY outside noises.

I have business meetings with people and I don't want to be recorded so I was thinking of making a soundproof container that they could put their phones inside instead of having them frisked and then asking them to leave it in their cars.

TL;DR how can I make a portable soundproof container or pouch?

Thanks in advance!

Recently moved into new room, there's a lock on my door but no key and the landlord doesn't have it either.
Bought a new lock cylinder to replace the lock however I can't get the cylinder itself out without the key. Catch 22.
What should I do?

monitor power supply

No.895345 ViewReplyReportDelete
Hey guys. I've done a little repair work on some vintage organs before and replaced the caps on their power supplies. And I've done a little electrical work on some pcbs, replacing fast and slow blow glass fuses and soldering on ceramic fuses.

Back story: Work at a university bowling center. Some of our monitors went out. The manufacturer has screwed us because these aren't made anymore and they don't have any supplies to send us. We have had to replace all of them before (power supply recall) and had some others replaced over the past few years. They say they MAY be able to fix them. I dont like that and the repair time will take too long. Also, there a none to be purchased online anymore. I have one at one of our professors and he is working on one, I have another I will be testing components on.

Where do I start? Just checking all components for continuity? Is that the proper path for caps?

Pic related, power supply in question.

Fabric Crafts Show-and-Tell

I've been getting into crochet recently as a way to pass the slow hours of the night shift. This is my latest work in progress: a circular rag rug crocheted from a ball of bedsheet strips. It's a lot easier than I thought it would be. I think I'll try making a rag basket next.

Do any of you other /diy/kes crochet, knit, sew, or practice other fabric crafts? Show off your creations in this thread, ask other anons how they made their stuff, etc. Anything goes.

So I bought this electric wheelchair for a project I'm doing (a tank, posted here for advice previously) and after replacing the dead batteries, the thing powers on like a charm.

However, it won't drive. Going off the control panel saying there's no speed on the speed indicator, I'm thinking it's been immobilised , so the thing will not budge through the controls. The power box gives off a loud 'click' sound when the joystick is moved too, as to prevent the motors from powering.

Video of it here: https://a.pomf.cat/butebt.webm

I was hoping of finding a method to deactivate the immobiliser lock and use it freely. Any ideas? I'm going to attempt and find an actual immobiliser key but if I can do it DIY, it'd be a lot cheaper.

Want to get values between 5.5 and 8.5 and interested which methods would give me the most precise and stable results.

Glass cutting

No.894741 ViewReplyReportDelete
Hello all,
I'm currently trying to cut a 4" hole through glass using a dremel and tile cutting bit but I think I have ruined it (please see image).
What techniques could I use to enlarge the hole slightly and clean up the edges?
Thank you

Okay so /sci/ is no help so I'll ask here:

Can you make magnets behave like a spring?

Is it possible to lock two objects a set distance apart by large but equal magnetic attraction and repulsion forces? Can that equilibrium be maintained even if other forces act upon it?

I'm working on some designs with a friend for an idea of his and if this is possible then it would be our best means of accomplishing it.
