Metal Arm

No.891430 ViewReplyReportDelete
Hi /diy/! I had this idea of creating an arm which I can hang on my wall to hold my phone up. It has to have already 2 joints and be pretty sturdy. Do you guys have any idea where I can find this?

Stick Welding is cunts.

Please share tips.

Here are some I've picked up:
>The smaller the arc length the better
>Learn to manipulate work and lead angle to fix up welds mid-weld
>Pull don't push

This one is prob most important

>Don't allow a puddle to form infront of your direction of travel, if it happens fix it by getting ahead of it by speeding

But if it happens, your stick weld won't come out perfect.

Closet shelf?

No.888988 ViewReplyReportDelete
Hi gang,

So I've moved back into my childhood home, and it's occurred to me that I have all this potential space in my closet, provided I build a shelf shortly above the rod here (please disregard the squiggliness - I took a panoramic failure of a picture).

Thing is, I don't know much about shelf building, let alone designing one that would accommodate the trapezoidal space.

I'm thinking about bolting supports on each wall, measuring/cutting some thick plywood to put on top. However, does anyone have suggestions that might be more efficient?

Thanks folks.

Distilling general

No.888038 ViewReplyReportDelete
I've been making wine for about 8 years, recently (3months) bought a still and have been hooked on distilling ever since. I'm getting better/more complex flavors than I ever did out of wine.

I need some new inspiration for mash/wash recipes. Please toss in your suggestions and would love to talk to other distillers.

Old fan wiring

No.890117 ViewReplyReportDelete
I'm restoring an old GE fan. I've taken the motor out and goofed by not taking careful consideration of the wiring prior to tear down. I've currently got the hot 5 connected to 2 and 4 and the neutral 5 connected to one and 3, at the suggestion of my electrician father. The motor makes a horrendous noise like a giant circuit breaker, but it works. Here's the thing, I explicitly remember that two of the 1-4 wires were connected to eachother. The motor is two fields, 110ac, shaded, single speed. Anybody have an idea as to how this should actually be hooked up? Thank you

This seems really stupid, /diy/, but for the life of me, I can never seem to get high quality, non-morphed 2x4s or the like from stores like Lowe's and Home Depot. I will sit there, look at them from all angles, place them on the ground and see if they're flush, measure twice, cut once, but something is always off. My butt joints seem to be OK most of the time, but nothing ever seems to fit like a glove. Is there something I should be looking for to ensure higher quality wood?

Thanks.
