SO, I happen to have a JET J-720R.
>http://www.jettools.com/us/en/p/j-720r-3-arm-radial-drill-press-230-460v/320033 I'm an idiot though so I have no idea what sort of vice will fit the damn thing.
it sits very sexily and glares at me for using 2"X4"s and clamps in lieu of a proper vice.
what reasonably priced vice can I get for it?

>>891755 Take a manual machining course first if you have no experience. You will learn great skills especially in a college level. Then after that you can learn some g-code and get into cnc or continue into more schooling...
My college degree consisted mostly half and half of manual and CNC. The CNC was stricly writing g-code from scratch and to do that to need to know what to tell the machine to do logically. Never got into cad as my first job was as a manual machinist and just fell into it. Bosses bring you problems to solve.... mostly from the cnc dept. you are an asset if you can do it well. If you just want to just learn as a hobby fine, but I have a degree but I learned more in my first 6 months on the job.

Hello /diy/ My korean monitor's power adapter burnt out after a thunderstorm. I opened it up and saw that it has two blown capacitors (both 35v 680uf 105 celcius electrolytic) I replaced them with two capacitors from my old lcd monitor's power supply board, they are both 35v 1000uf 105 celcius electrolytic, closest I can find. Everything works now, the multimeter output checks out on the 4pin connector, but I'm wondering if I will run into problems in the long run due to higher capacitance rating My ac adapter is input 100-240v, 50/60hz output 24v 5a

also this happened because I plugged my monitor into a normal power strip instead of the surge protector. Really stupid of me but I rearranged my room recently and didn't think where to plug different things

They're just filter caps, it's probably better this way, but it would be even better if you used higher voltage caps.

Would it make things worse if they're in series or parallel?

Hey /diy/, I've had an idea for a while and I finally have the motivation to try to make it. Basically, I want to have a 2 or 3-pin power plug connected to a sort of battery to power my speakers wherever I go. Does anybody have any sort of plans for something like this, or a source where I could find them? I'm not the best electrician, any advice is helpful.

Minimum voltage requirement is 150, I was thinking of using something along the lines of a laptop battery.

you can DIY an inverter, for sure, using 2 power transistors and a transformer, but it's much cheaper (and safer) to buy one. my local big-box store has twice-yearly sales where they sell a 75W one for $6.
a laptop battery is not ideal, coz you need a special connector to charge it. a 12V gel cell is a better idea.
and an even better idea is to forgo the inverter and use an amplifier powered directly from 12Vdc, like this one:

Is "copper" spray paint conductive enough to function as a base for electroplating copper on plastic (i.e: for plating through holes) ? Is it conductive at all?
Anonymous

>>895021 >Is it conductive at all? search for proper conductive copper paint with flakes of copper in it and look at the price.
but do this too

Also, how about guitar "shielding" paint? Is it conductive? I have no access to the proper materials to make conductive carbon paint, so whenever I attempted the result was crap, but it almost worked (copper stuck to it during the electrodeposition).
Anonymous
Quoted By:
>>895034 Guitar shielding paint has conductive flakes all through it, but they're probably not dense enough to get a continuous conductive surface out of. You can buy metal flake as pigment and mix it with glycerine and enough of some binder to hold it together and run it through an airbrush if you can't find actual conductive paint.
Anonymous
>>895021 You can use acrylic paint and crushed graphite for an electro plating surface paint.
Anonymous

>>895317 I have tried this with limited success. Had better results with clear acrylic lacquer than with acrylic paint. The ink used for making membrane keyboards seem to be really good for this, but it's really expensive and impossible to find.

Is there still a way to get custom logos and screensavers for old Nokia phones such as the 3310? I bought this retro phone from Ebay and as soon as you turn it on, a crudely drawn Osama pops up. I'd like to replace it with something else.

Yo /diy/ real quick I need a back pack made out of pillowcase rope and brown duct tape. I'm a pretty mechanical guy buy what you think? Il check this after work around 4 please help
Anonymous
>>895113 unless you are going to sew the mouth of the case around the rope i wouldn't bother. hole in the pillowcase will fuck it up. duct tape won't hold anything substantial. unless you make the whole bag out of it.

>>895124 It would but I'm looking for quick and easy over looks. Any bag with a money sign would do
>>895122 Yea I thought of that. I'm thinking maybe tie the rope to the corners then tape up the knots for strength and give it that leather stitched money bag look. I'm not keeping anything valuable in it and it's literally just for a night so the opening can just be taped for all I care.
