Sup /diy/, would ask the /g/entoomen on this but I suspect this one could descend into a shill war, and I know there's plenty of CAD heads here.
> TL;DR, how to migrate a SketchUp workflow to Linux, or a SketchUp equivalent for Linux.
For reasons I'm sure you could prolly guess i'm biting the bullet and moving away from Windows, I have been fiddling with Mint on a spare laptop and am pretty damn impressed with it.
My single tie to Windows at this point is SketchUp. I have close to 2GB of projects, but it does not appear there is a native Linux port for SketchUp, and running CAD in a VM hosted Windows install seems like a great way to generate rage and drama while not getting anything done. I know fuck all about CAD and some rudimentary searches for conversion tools show nothing; I don't even know if ts possible to export .skp's to another program.
My questions;
> Is there a way to export .skp's to another FOSS style program?
> If not, does anyone have experience with SketchUp in a VM, and is it the sack if dicks I'm imagining it will be?
> If neither of the above are options, is there anything else I can do that will prevent me having to recreate 40-odd, fairly mechanically complex projects like pic related in a new CAD program?
Any suggestions on FOSS CAD programs would be appreciated as well. I'm kinda dense when it comes to CAD, fuck all experience apart from SU, I'm ok with a learning curve as long as it does not involve me needing to learn calculus.
Thanks for reading guys.
