Protip: its not worth it, especially on large hides.
Breaking the hide while its drying is not for the weak or those prone to heart conditions. You absolutely MUST break the hide to get it buttery soft if its going to be the least bit comfortable for you. An unbroken tanned hide will be rough and crackly. Proffessionally tanned hides are tumbled nonstop as they are dried breaking them significantly better than you could ever do by hand.
I've done it before for the fun of it on a coyote. And once was enough for me. I was reccomended Tubari from a reputable fur dealer and they've never let me down.
Beyond that fur blankets usually are backed with a satin fabric. You can also line it with some batting as well for increased warmth and comfort. But I would just line it with the satin and rely on a comfortor under the pelt for comfort for versatility.
