>>891849if it's a rental check into the building code of your town and see if there's provisions for pests. given the way bed bugs spread and can stay dormant for long periods it's almost always going to fall on the landlord to take care of them if you have a provision in the code.
sorry OP, I had bed bugs for a few months, they are the fucking worst. we treated them ourselves for 2 applications (steam + chemicals) and then finally got our landlord to pay for professional treatments (2 of them). when the professionals did their shit they didn't find living bed bugs either time but it's still important to have a few treatments after they're visibly gone. the most important thing is consistency and coverage. one missed corner, missed pillowcase, and they're back. you have to go all in on treating them and you need to repeat at least any chemical application a few times.
chemical treatment means every crack, around your furniture, inside of electrical outlets, and inside of the walls. it must consist of short term (sprays) as well as long term (powders).
heat treatment is iffy. yes if you heat up bed bugs to a certian temp they die, it's sweet and a good time to kill them with a steam cleaner. that being said, it's not very easy to heat up every nook and crany of your house to the necessary temp. those guys can go deep and hide well. i don't think heat treatment alone is enough to really be sure.
