Ecommerce

Hey, guys I've been working for this guy who has opened a successful ecommerce business. I've learned a lot from him since I was doing the shipping and receiving. Now its time for me to try to start one up myself. I got together a couple of friends some pitching money/some pitching in time to start up our own ecommerce business. We have around $2,000.00 to put into the product + some extra money to pay for the paperwork. We are willing to put more if the business goes well. So far: +I've been looking into software to help me find and analyze products. We wanted to go into the health section and sell on Amazon. + We've found a product that doesn't have any sellers other than the manufacturer. +We've found a distributor whose willing to sell to us in bulk for this particular start up item.
Now the problem, is that I was starting to look up laws against selling on Amazon and it started to worry me. Even the distributor isn't selling (only the manufacturer is). am not sure where to go about finding out if this will be a problem for us or not. This looks like the perfect start up item, and it would really suck if I had to find somewhere else.
Also I saw in an article that in order to sell as new you would need to get permission from the manufacturer and maybe sign a contract?
I am still new to this if I could get some pointers that would be great. Best
