What the hell should I use this shelf for? It's really thin (book for scale) and one meter long. I found two of these in my new room and I think it's just a waste of space, do you have any ideas about its purpose?

The person who furnished this room was dumb as hell, he/she put two of these "shelves" right in the middle of two wall of the room, so I can't even put there a decent bookcase

Flip them upside down. More usable space.
Or just remove them and put your bookcase in and replace them when you move.

Of this is not your style OP I'd just remove them, most bookcases will cover any screw-holes anyway.

this is a picture holder. It is made for putting pictures and small clutter on it. this saves you from hammering nails into the walls every time you want another picture on the wall. They are sold by IKEA and I have some of them in my kitchen, since they are great for spices and little clutter!
