If you go draw too much current or otherwise toss it up, you'll fry your USB port.
If my computer has 2 usb ports and your product fucks up one of my USB ports, I'd be more than pissed. I'd come and make you pay for a new computer
Go with a 12v adapter and some LED strips. So much easier.
PS: USB ports might be more abundant but I'm not giving up precious data channels, or a USB charger which I always seem to loose for some stupid lighting.
