Guys I'm trying to make my first knife. I have this 300mm x 25mm with 6mm thickness steel bar. Since I want to make it with scandi grind, and stock is a bit to thick, is it possible to make it an acceptable cutter? Should I go with full flat grind instead?

Pic related it's said steel which I've no idea what type is.

(OP here) my knife has a 12 cm handle and a 14.5 cm blade. The steel has a thickness of 6mm and a width of 30mm. I'm not sure either what steel it is. Your design looks good but i'm afraid your steel isn't wide enough.

Yeah I know but since It's my first time I'll give it a try. One question, how did you heat treat your knife without knowing the steel properties? I'm also kind stuck on that.

dont even bother. use it sometime you need a bit of steel for a brace, or a hinge mounting, or something.

go buy some proper carbon steel so you know what you're using, before you waste all the time shaping it.
