ROCKETRY

No.894181 ViewReplyReportDelete
Hello /diy/, /g/ here

I am considering making some small chemical powered rockets, does anyone have any experience or a decent guide, specifically about how to make the rocket fuel and fuse?

I have access to a wide variety of chemicals due to working in a lab, but unfortunately little in the way of ammonium nitrate or potassium nitrate. I'll write a list of likely chemicals which I have easy access to and if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful.

I'm currently leaning towards solid fuel, which means a paste or impregnated newspaper.

The chemicals I can use are:
Potassium permanganate (and sugar)
Sodium metabisulphite
Ammonia
Acetone
Iodine
Hydrochloric, sulphuric, malic, lactic, methanesulphonic, orthophosphoric, chromic, acetic acids
Sodium hydroxide
Hydrogen peroxide
Urea
Bromine, chlorine (as hypochlorite)
Starch
Methanol, propan-1-ol, -2-ol, methylated spirit, ethanol

Probably others, as well as equipment such as a still and fume cupboard etc.

Currently I'm considering a TATP-permanganate mix, but I'm concerned about making TATP in any decent quantity due to the stability issue.

I can also access household chemicals such as matches.

Any design info would be great as well. I am going to bed for a few hours but I'll check this thread in the morning for ideas.
