Hey everyone. Hoping I can get some good tech savys out here. I am getting a 70's Fender FR 1000 solid state reverb unit (from guitar center) and I've done some research on it. It has a 2 prong power cord..... Would this affect the reverb unit as bad as 2 prongs do to guitar amps? Would the 2 prong cause the reverb unit to shock me and risk the unit to easily get damaged? Anyone has any experience with this unit?

Also if the 2 prong is a major problem id like some help with instructions on how to replace it with a 3 prong cord. I'm guessing it's 100% good to go since GC has techs (expensive ones) and should take vintage equipment serious

How do you figure? Wouldn't this introduce hum as the circuit is not tied to the same ground as the amp or does the ground line of the instrument lead serve this purpose?

Except that your pic shows a capacitor on the right, connecting the mains to device's ground. A grounded plug would be nice.

Wut? The only capacitor in that part of the schematic is the filter cap sitting across the mains switch, and I would call that left of diagram, not right. I see no earth markers anywhere in that diagram..

I'd expect you to get a slight shock (in some cases), but you can just try reversing the plug, if you are reluctant to change it.

Meanwhile, those earth markers would refer to a common ground for the circuit, in most circumstances, this would be to the chassis. If the chassis were intended to be earthed the schematic would show an earth tie off like the lower right of pic related. While this is not a double insulated device, it's clearly built without an earth tie in (which I'm >>894964 still confused about because no common earth between devices which should create a ground loop)

Let's say the top contact of the mains plug is grounded and the bottom is live. You have your guitar plugged in, meaning that you're connected to reverb's chassis. Now you touch something which is actually grounded, like your amp.
Current comes from the live wire, through the 47nF capacitor, through you, to the amplifier's ground. From there, to mains ground. So, there's you and that capacitor in series between the live and ground. The maximum fault current is around 2mA. It won't kill you, but you can feel it.

OP here. I hate that tingle sensation. Ok going to replace it with a two prong. Is it simple enough to do on my own or should I take it to a tech. I'm pretty experienced and can read a good amount of schematics but I wasn't familiar with this unit's schematics. I don't want to risk that extra bit of current frying my amp

Also line to line rather than line to ground and potentially shorting mains to chassis under failure (if it was a capacitor).
