CNC Machine Purchasing Help

No.895553 ViewReplyReportDelete
Hey fam,

I build boats and currently hand cut my coring and starboard, so want to invest in a 3-axis CNC machine. I need a table that can hold up to a 5x10' sheet of material - which will be 90% balsa core and HDPE (Starboard).

I've been researching online and talking to vendors, so far looking at:
Gerber M3000
CR Onsrud M Series
Thermwood Model 45

They're all around the same money (~100-110k) by the time you get done with the router, vacuum pump, software, isolation transformer, tooling, etc etc.

Any advise from those who have owned CNC machines? What do you think is the best?

Also for CAM software, I'm pretty good with computers and used to do CAD in college - is Mastercam a good choice for simple stuff or is it overkill? The licenses are kind of expensive but that seems to be what most recommend.
