>>10533810>Why look like everyone else, just for the sake of fitting in?when you phrase it like that, you're not actually asking the question. you've already assumed that it's for the sake of fitting in, which comes with all sorts of loaded connotations about insecurity and sheepleness etc.
but guess what m8, if you're wearing clothes at all then you've already been brainwashed by society to be self-conscious and to go with the flow. you were not born into this world wearing clothes.
but, to answer your question:
it's fun to try to dress to an occasion. just as it's sometimes fun to dress against an occasion's expectations.
did you go to your graduation in dirty sweatpants m8? do you go out on a date to a $200/plate restaurant wearing basketball shorts and a tank top? why not? it's comfy. and you don't give a crap about fitting in, right?
depending on the occasion, there are going to be events where I just want to sit back and enjoy the experience and allow my date to enjoy the experience too without drawing extra attention by wearing something that doesn't suit the occasion.
sure, there will be other times where i feel like wearing a flame-print nascar shirt to an event to shake things up and shock bourgeois sensibilities. but i don't want to do that every second of my life, sometimes i just want to get through something smoothly.
the bottom line is: dress how you want. and if you're trying to tell me that you don't occasionally feel like dressing the part for a social situation, then i think you're lying to yourself.
