Suit advice

/fa/ I need suit advice, general sperg in this area. Was just invited to dinner with her parents, her dad being a CEO of a Fortune 500. It's happening 5 days from now.

Looking to drop 500-600 on a suit and I'll need to buy some dress shoes to go along with it.

I have no idea where to start but I was looking at something with a textured look like pic related.

Any help would be grand

If her dad is the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, they probably come from old money. Don't try to impress him with something flashy because he will think you look like trash. You just want him to have some form of respect for you. Keep it as simple as possible. Go to Brooks Brothers and get a navy or grey sportcoat for ~$300. You could go for a full suit if you'd like, but I'd suggest a sportcoat with olive or dark brown slacks/chinos/whatever the occasion calls for and a pair of brown oxfords or pennies. The shirt and tie don't really matter, but you can never go wrong with a solid white or blue and a simple patterned tie. If it's not very formal you could have a simple patterned shirt and a patterned tie to contrast it, but it may come off as contrived and too busy if you're not already from their circle. I can get away with dressing "gaudy" because I grew up with these types of people and it's just part of my style. But if you're just being introduced to the old money types I wouldn't suggest it. I don't fully know your situation though. You can never go wrong with simple though.

I can put together an example from my own wardrobe once I get home.

You are in the perfect demographic to get something made to measure online.

Go check out Indochino, Black Lapel, and Blank Label. They all have suits in that range that are made well and are - generally speaking - made to fit you. Get something in navy or light-ish charcoal without an excessive pattern. Two button, double vented, functional cuffs, no contrast stitching except maybe on a buttonhole here and there. Obviously notch lapel.

Get a Brooks Brothers shirt unless you're ridiculously small. Their no-iron shirts are phenomenally made for the price and tend to sustain wear well.

As for a tie, don't go bonkers. Get something nice-ish from The Tie Bar or something. With ties, at this price range, it doesn't make sense to drop a lot of cash.

For shoes? At your price range, check out Nordstrom's sale section for something by Johnston & Murphy, Cole Haan, or (ideally) Allen Edmonds. If you go for navy, get oxblood or brown. If you get something charcoal, get black shoes. Avoid light tan for now. Broguing is perfectly acceptable, just avoid anything with a square or pointed toe.

Also get a simple white handkerchief and fold - and iron - it into a pocket square.

I should note that there's no damn way you'll get a well-fitted suit in 5 days unless you rush to Brooks Brothers, spend way too much, then go to a tailor and pay for rush processing.

This is generally why it's best to have a few suits in your closet for such occasions, but it's totally understandable if you're a college student or something.

Which one of the styles would you recommend for a first suit? Business, young professional.

I mean, I can r8 'n' h8 streetwear and redditcore all day, but in all seriousness I'm not sure what sorts of suits are classic, slim-fitting, or formal and the like.

Thanks for the advice man, I'll try out that, but I think I'm still set on a suit.. Maybe not the tie to make it more casual but still looking clean.

I was looking at a suit from Roger David (I'm australian) or something similar because we don't have much choice where I currently am, but I'll be flying out to Singapore to meet him. I have a friend who's been tailoring for about double the time I've been alive and has told me if I can get him the suit with 2 days before fly out, he'll work around the clock for me and will just charge me normally.

I didn't find out about this arrangement until this morning, but I figure I've got to make an effort.
