How do I find the correct balance when losing weight and becoming fit?

I will hype myself up, get all motivated and go hard on the diet and exercise. Then crumble after a couple weeks because I'm mentally and physically exhausted.

If I go slower I get pissed off with the lack of immediate results and lose motivation.

How do I find that balance between seeing results and not burning myself out?
