There was a study, and I really wish I could find the link again, that compared three groups: 1 supplementing whey, 1 supplementing soy protein, and 1 supplementing more carbs.
Whey was #1 for increased muscle, obviously. But, the carb supplemented group was actually #2, mostly because of the anabolic effects of the increased insulin. Soy protein was dead last for muscle development.
