This is partially true, I've had several girls tell me they just didn't see my message under the torrents of messages they got, so 2 or 3 were required to get their attention.

That said, online dating is a crapshoot if you're looking for anyone who's even average in the looks department. You have a higher chance of success asking for the number of random girls in public than spending that time on online dating, or at least I have. It's hard to look good over pictures and text.
