/Plg/ I took your advice. As a novice I went along with the "just lift and eat".
>bodyweight went from 50kg->80kg (@5'8)
>squat 95kg 3x5
>bench 70kg 3x5
>deadlift 125kg 1x5
I'm convinced I can get those numbers to 110/75/140 (for reps obv) at least with linear progression, which I believe is a reasonable point for someone of my height/weight/muscle mass to move on to intermediate programming.

My question is, what do I do when I stall? My bf% has increased from around 13-15% to now around 25% or so. I know I need to cut (both for the purpose of getting into a more appropriate weight class but also because I hate being fat), probably down to 66kg since I'll still be fat at 74kg. But on a caloric deficit I feel like I can't do an early intermediate program that aggressively pushes for PRs every week like TM or Madcow - and to add to that, it's not a style of training I enjoy very much, I prefer doing a lot of clean, quality sets. But I know I won't be advanced enough for sheiko. TSA 9 week program looks nice but it seems high in volume and I suppose it would be unwise to run this in a calorie deficit. I was thinking maybe hepburn during a slow cut? Quality reps far from failure, not too much volume. Any ideas?

I'd do the second one but I'd put deads first on B day. It might be personal preference but I know that I couldn't do 8 sets deadlift directly after squatting heavy and keep good technique. Also consider doing lighter overhead memes instead of following the Hepburn scheme(I assume this is Hepburn?). OHP literally doesn't matter as a strength exercise, the only reason to do it is for muscular balance and health.

I'm manlet with the most pathetic frame and had an absurd lack of muscle mass. I was a walking bag of sticks, guts and some fat. Even as a skeleton I had no abs visible or anything.

Do one of the 3day sheikos. There's nothing "advanced" about sheiko, the only thing that differs between sheiko and say TM is that you're not pushing for PR:s that often which is not equal to it being a more advanced program.

Is there anything wrong with lifting your neck slightly off the bench when the bar is touching your chest during the benchpress? I've seen Alan Thrall and Mark Bell do this while benching and I tried using form more similar to this today and broke a plateau.
Just wondering if this will fuck my shit up in the long run, or if it's alright to do.

Dunno what to tell you mate. I started similar to a lot of people here, nerdy skeleton who could barely lift the bar. I remember very clearly starting at 50kg because at first I had trouble gaining weight (probably due to barely eating for over 18 years so I had a small appetite) and I saw this number on the scale for far too long. But even then I was never at some shredded bf%. I didn't have abs showing, or obliques, or veins on my arms. I just looked like some random kinda skinnyfat guy.

405 is the heaviest I've gone raw. That was a while back and all my rep work is stronger now. If I had to guess I'd say 415 or so.

In ascending order of assistance, they go blue < red = yellow < black. Hit 455 messing around with the black one. Usually use the yellow one in conjunction with raw benching.

I realize that made it sound like I have a gym bag full of the things. I have the yellow one and I've tried the red and black ones that buddies have.

Bench every other day alternating heavy raw/volume SS with heavy SS/volume raw. Spoto presses after the aforementioned on both days. I'm considering experimenting with heavy Spoto presses instead of the heavy raw sets and adding DB volume where the Spoto presses used to be.

I recently switched to heels down. It feels better. I'm not flexible enough for a crazy arch regardless and I'm more stable this way. I lift my head on Spoto presses but not normal benching and I pause on heavy sets.

I don't compete yet, so I'm a no-lift guy, but I squat and pull. The schedule goes:

Push
Pull
Push
Squat

With additional back work on the day I squat and rest days as seriously needed/work dictates. I used to meme press and alternate that heavy/volume with benching, but it was aggravating my elbows and I got the slingshot, so away I went on a bench bender. It's still working, so I'm still doing it.

My bench isn't crazy for my size and I stay away from failure, so it works.

Yeah, I really don't care about hitching in and of itself, but the disparity between my off-the-floor strength and my lockout strength is getting ridiculous. It's like I'm a 700 lb puller from the floor to my knees and a 500 lb puller from my knees to lockout. I've hit 605 off a 4.5" deficit after a Mag/Ort session, but 545 on blocks from just below the knees kicks my ass.

the logistics of competing in it isn't final since I live in OC and no car rn. crazy tho, last year there were 3 people in my weight and age class, whereas now there are 3 people from my commercial gym in OC all in the same class for it.

I feel like SS needs more pull-ups or rows or face pulls or rear delt flyes. The back of the shoulder (posterior delt, rhomboids, those smaller muscles) don't get enough volume from just 1x5 deadlift alternated by 3x5 chin-ups in my opinion.

Also don't fucking do power cleans for powerlifting. You don't need explosiveness and the learning curve is too high. Bad form pcleans are useless, just do some rows for a similar effect.

SS just don't waste your time on isolations. The only time I do them is when Boris forces my hand. Even still it's not one muscle, it's a muscle group. Rows will build rear delt flyes, face pulls or similar for rotator cuff muscles, but that's really all you'd need as far as that goes

Am I correct in thinking that my grip is too narrow, elbows flare at the bottom and it causes me to collapse?
If so, anyone know any elbow mobility things I could do, ideally so I could go narrowish but keep a verticle forearm, going wider feels like the bar is gonna fall off my back.
Thanks lads, I posted a video a couple weeks ago and you guys advising me to switch to oly shoes really helped me fix my depth issues.

Mate you need a better understanding of TM. VD is supposed to be the lowest possible weight that still allows you to drive progression on ID. You can't set up for a good ID by failing VD, thus defeating the whole purpose of TM.

Easy way to test would be to just try to get comfortable with a slightly wider grip width, which i know you said feels bad. look up bryce lewis's shoulder mobility if you'd like, but like i said i don't think your shoulder mobility is the cause of your back folding.

that's possible, as could upper back weakness. or it could just be a cueing issue, maybe you haven't really learned how to activate your upper back when squatting (which was what my issue was). If its the lat case you pretty much just need to squat more often

I think there's a point where you can make that 5x5 too light, so while you may not have trouble recovering by your ID that 5x5 doesn't have very good carryover to 1x5/1x3.

Either way I think the whole mantra of "apply volume monday, reap training effect friday" is probably oversimplified, I know tons of people who ran TM and really didn't get that much out of it.
