There's a guy at my gym who competes in powerlifting. He competes as a 275 lb lifter and is around 5'10.
He squats 565 lbs, benches 370 lbs, and deadlifts 600 lbs. He's 31 years old and has been lifting since he was 17.
To contrast, I've been lifting for 4 years and squat 530 lbs, bench 345 lbs, and deadlift 575 lbs at 210 lbs body weight. I'm 23 years old.
For the difference in body weight and experience I'd expect him to be way stronger than me.
Does this guy just not know how to train or do genetics matter that much?
