As for the warranty, I can not attest to how necessary it is, but the local gym has a no-name bar that's stood up to plenty of abuse for over 7 years, and only got a little bend to it (I'd like to take credit for that). I also seem to recall the lifetime warranty being a bit shoddy with its conditions, so I wouldn't worry too much about it anyway.
