There's a difference between sports drinks and regular water when the sessions last more than one hour - sports drinks are better for longer sessions.
Here are some guidelines for the drink. Experiment a bit with the amount, timing, etc.
>up to 2% of BW in water pre- and intraworkout
>5-7 dl per hour of training
>4-7% of the water should be sugar/similar (fructose or whatever, maltodextrose, whatev) if the session lasts more than one hour
>40-60g carbs in a liter per hour (during training) is sufficient even if you're carb depleted
>best to drink 1-1.5 dl every 10-15 minutes
>cold climate: increase carbs a bit
>warm climate: increase carbs and salt a bit
This is for endurance sports, but it's probably not a huge difference to a high density lifting session.
They don't give any guidelines for the amount of salt, so experiment a bit here as well.

my only lifts are deadlift, flat bench, decline bench, overhead pess, and pullups

I think my traps have been getting bigger, but my left side seems to be bigger than my right, despite being left handed. the only lift I can think of that isn't symmetrical is my mixed grip DL, but that wouldn't affect my traps, right?

also, people usually do other exercises too, so it's possible that the imbalances get correct that way

Sorry lad, I'm being a cunt.

Your friends shouldn't have been using mixed grip so often. Using double overhand for warmup/sub-maximal worksets prevent any sort of issues (which would be very, very minor) from a mixed grip.

Telling people to alternate their grip every set is the equivalent of an old wives tale.

i dont know if switching every set is necessary or not
i just meant to say that it can develop imbalances, not that it has too, or that you need to switch every set or not

if a friend of mine complains about imbalances, i will tell they it could be due to their dl grip, and that they could switch their grip every set or every workout, or switch to hook grip
it doesnt cost anything to switch every set, so i dont see the harm in it

Wrote out my attempts and stuff in kgs and lbs so i have an idea on meet day. i really want a 1225lb total but i don't know how that'll workout with attempt selection. i guess i'll either have to hope either bench or squat feels good the day of and i can go ever so slightly (2.5kg) past my "realistic" third.

Plus I'd like to get used to the format of an IPF meet in a stress free way. I'd be fuckin pissed if I were getting used to attempt cards for the first time AND stressing about finding an extra 2.5 kg somewhere so I could podium.

To me, a gym PR is pretty much the exact same thing as a meet PR.
If I see a video of Dan Green pulling 900 or something, but he can't get 900 in a meet, I still attribute the 900 gym pull.

2 of my favorite lifters from the last meet I went to were pushing baby weights.

One of them was 12. It was his first meet. We treated him like royalty. Hype and all. It was the best.

The other was a 20 year old kid with some type of lower body developmental issue. He benched only, and bombed out (bad opener selection). We cheered him up afterwards, and gave him some tips. Good times.

Same meet later on, we watched an untested division, unlimited gear guy open on bench with 920 lbs.

9 2 0 lbs. I don't lift equipped, but fuck me, it was fun to watch.

Get the stick out of your ass, friend. There are people out there that love doing something fun. I am one of them. And I give no shits if my lifts don't 'count' to some keyboard warrior :)

I don't need to go to a meet and do my shit lifts myself to know that I suck.

I get they're better Powerlifters, but they're not better lifters, and I don't see how people don't understand that.

i eased into it through different, slightly higher volume programs in succession.
so like 5/3/1 -> candito's 6 week -> sheiko
candito's gave me enough base work capacity to get through a sheiko cycle. but with just a week or two i'd take a light week right before and hope for the best tbh.

The other reason being he learned to squat from geared guys and that wide, elbows down almost hyperextended style is pretty effective when you're in multi-ply and have to worry about what 1100 is going to do if you get forward even the slightest bit.

I 3x5 150kg but I am quite sure that a 160kg squat I would provably fail for 1 rep.

forward knee travel is not dependent on high or low bar. also breaking at the hips can cause some people to sit too far back if they naturally sit back anyway, so breaking at the knees first can work just fine.

He more than likely is able to break at the hips, but a lot of people don't understand how to do so.

I'm the original memer, my advice would to be practising sitting back, and breaking at the hips, without a barbell until you feel a hamstring stretch at the bottom. This stretch contributes to your rebound out of the bottom.

Look up Alan Thralls video on how to squat, he's literally the only guy who I can remember explaining it. There might be better videos, but it's in the Dropbox on the powerliftinggeneral website anyway, which was made by Norsefat.

It's really easy, all you need is heeled shoes and practice, you might need to stretch hamstrings too btw.

It is the most efficient way to squat however, due to increased rebound at the bottom from stretching the hamstrings.
If you lack mobility to do it, stretch, don't act like some tumbleima and blame it all on genetics and never do any work to improve your squat.
