I'm in a predicament, /fit/.

I've had a torn meniscus for four years after a sick bike accident. I didn't know anything was wrong at first, just like a sprained ankle, but with severe pain in my knee. The ER doc never told me I had anything wrong with me, so I waited it out. It "dislocated" sometimes, but when I'd get it checked out, they told me there was nothing I could do.

I fell down the stairs in Feb and landed on my bad leg. My knee felt like it exploded and I was unable to walk (used crutches) for about a month. A month after that landmark I was squatting back to normal, and then weeks later I injured it again and was out of commission again. I went to the doctor and finally pushed for an MRI. I just got the results back in Sept, confirming a torn meniscus, and I'm finally going in for surgery on the 24th of next month.

I was told I can't drive for a few weeks. It's non-invasive, and it's supposed to just "fix the pain" because they "don't know where the instability comes from." So much for that. Anyway, I'm going in, and I'm wondering what I can do in the gym to keep myself fit. I work out 5 days a week, eat pretty clean, and my biggest love is lifting and hiking. I'm paranoid and scared that I'm going to lose all my sweet gains to necessary vicodin and very necessary bed rest.

Do you guys have any advice? Tips? Personal experiences? Workouts?
