any shin splint victims here to share experience?

i had my delicious 30 minute run today and my legs are feeling bad :(

keep increasing the distance each day, until it stops hurting

>tl;dr walk and try to fight through the pain, rest a day if needed, keep going until you can walk 30-60 minutes pain free, THEN try running.

Check your running mechanics
I was running heel-to-toe and getting bad shin splints. Fixing that cleared em right up

I can't run with shoes at all. Too cheap to spend $100 on those toe shoes so I just run on the treadmill in socks

Sprinted after some abo thieves at the BWS who ran off with over $200 of alcohol.

It still hurts almost a week later, i've started a running program so i can run without getting splints again, started at 12 min of 10kph, now i'm at 14, next week i'll have three more running sessions and go 15,16 and 17 minutes over the week with the eventual goal being 30min 5K, then i start upping the speed by 0.1kph a time until i reach 12kph and take it from there.

I am using overload principles in cardio...

Use compressess. Put a hot one on the place that hurts for 1 minute then switch to cold. Repeat for like 5 times. It will help reduce tension in muscles. Helped me a lot. Never have gotten shin splints after that

stretch your calves, get a foam roller, decrease your stride/increase your steps. compression sleeves help for recovery too.

Run with a forefoot strike, faggot.

Big bulky-ass shoes are TOO comfy. When you land on your heel, it feels fine, but you end up putting way too much impact on your weak-ass shin muscles.

Get some minimal shoes (I used pic related). When you land on your heel with these babies, it does NOT feel right. You'll learn to have a forefoot strike and use your calves and hammies like you were intended to.

Your calves will be sore as FUCK when you first learn how to do a forefoot strike. Make sure you stretch them out good and use a roller. Don't overdo it.

These shoes in particular are good for running on asphalt and treadmills. If you run trails, get some minimal trail shoes. If you sprint, get some minimal racing flats or some other sturdier minimal shoes. But in particular, Nike Free is a great intro to barefoot-style running.

Source: wrecked my knees and shins in bulky trainers when I first started running 5 years ago. Switched to minimal shoes and now I run a 5 min mile. Not the best, but pretty good considering I consider myself a lifter, not a runner.

Don't keep running.
Had shin splints. Cunts got me medical 'd out of army basic. When it hurts to walk, you kinda regret running...
