Maybe I'm missing the point of some feature, but all reasonable archive formats already include a file's name with extension. What else would you need to store in a text file?

Can you, either by default or with a setting, make it so that the ffmpeg command prompt shows up so I can follow the progress of it?

Latest screen of the interface. FFMPEG output will show up on the right side of the screen instead of being logged to a file.

Still need to add a decent chunk of options and shit to the GUI, but the backend is coming along well.

Then the next job is to redirect ffmpeg's output to the little text area on the right.

Yeah. It's only intended to work for either encoding or decoding at any one time, not to do both at once.

It'd probably take a bit too much work on the users part to specify which files should be encoded and which should be decoded if I added some sort of checkboxes.

I'm implementing the 7zip process now, so the program should be more-or-less usable for it's basic features soon.

Serious suggestion: let the user specify the compress/uncompress command line in the config file, that way it will be easy to switch between zip, 7zip, tar.gz or whatever (the default as 7zip is fine). Not too big of a deal, but may be useful for people who don't want to bother downloading 7zip. Or, will 7zip and ffmpeg already be packaged with the download?

You could just include the binaries in the JAR and detect the OS and select an appropriate binary path at runtime.

Hmm... I should be able to allow the users to specify their own compression commands. I'll write that up now.

I'm just doing a bit of KISS to save myself work. =P If someone wants to add all the binaries, detect the OS, etc.. later on, they can go ahead.

I've almost got the program working for, hopefully, any compression, but I've got to get 7zip working properly before I can know for sure.

I haven't implemented a settings manager yet, so you're going to need to read the included readme and set things up. The default settings will work, but you'll need to set the path to your ffmpeg and 7zip executables.

Just ran a little test with Schillsaver.

It took roughly 20 minutes to encode a ~62MB file into a ~126MB encoded video file.

It took roughly 2 minutes to decode that file.

Just uploaded that ~126MB file to YouTube using the "yt:quality=high" tag.

The upload went smoothly, took a fair amount of time to process (I didn't time it), the video file looks like it processed perfectly well.

I downloaded the video using the highest quality available on http://www.clipconverter.cc/.

The 720p version is 341MB and the mobile "3gp" version is 482MB.

I downloaded the 720p version as an mp4 file.

It took around 2 minutes to decode the file back into a 7z archive.

I extracted the original file from the archive and it doesn't appear to have any loss of data.

I'd say this was a success.

I have no reason not to. It's cross-platform, I know it well enough to get things done quickly, I've got a decent chunk of back-end code already written to speed up GUI creation, etc...

I'm gonna try and encode a 4GB file on my server. According to >>51097839 that should take in the ballpark of ~20 hours to compute. I'll report back if I encounter any errors.

Sounds great. One tip I have is to not touch the GUI after it begins encoding. Looks like I need to multithread it so it doesn't lock the entire GUI while encoding. Playing with the GUI shouldn't crash it or anything, but you never know.
