How about some actual evidence, considering it's a separate controller that has to be added to the processor, a controller that I have yet to see evidence of existing outside of the Q series that Intel markets with that feature.

If you have /dev/mei on you linux box, ME is there. Look in drivers/misc/mei/ for a list of supported hardware. It used to be in the southbridge, now it is integrated into the processor since Sandy Bridge. All current Intel chips.

Meant motherboard, not processor. You still need a specific chipset (Q series) on the mother board for it to be usable, even if the processor has the ME controller on it.

From what I've read, a chipset that supports AMT is necessary to be able to use the ME. If there's evidence otherwise I'd love to see it, It'd give me another reason to wait for AMD to release their Zen line.

Yeah, you have it backwards. ME is what enables AMT. Its the foundation. A general purpose co-processor/os combination that Intel uses to run "applications", literally signed java applets. Along with AMT, ME enables IPT and a host of other "services" (like video decryption, secure keypad, etc.).

Danke, I was under the impression that Intel AMT was the only thing that utilized the ME (as the features of AMT are what seem to be brought up all the time when people talk about vulnerabilities with the ME) and that you were safe as long as you didn't have a one of their Q chipsets on your motherboard to use AMT, but on looking up some of the other applications that are listed as using the ME it appears that I was wrong. Bookmarked for further reference and reposting.
