You're an idiot if you buy a MacBook and don't use OS X. The whole point of buying a MB is that, together with OS X, they run beautifully.

Enjoy your 4 hours of battery life if you use anything else other than the OS it was intended for.

None, you have OS X.
It's running true UNIX, there's absolutely no reason to switch to a flavour of Linux.

There is exactly one: HFS+.

But on Linux you have to deal with X and less native programs. So it's a trade off.

Not OP, and OSX user. There are things the OS does NOT do, and that makes me mad. If I knew I could pull it off, I would gladly install Linux on my Fapple machine. However, I need to repair some hardware parts (Fapple claims they would do it for free). When that is done, I may install Linux if it turns out to be possible without problems.

Apple doesn't care if you put an unfinished os on their hardware, they just won't support your software. If you buy a Mac, use the Mac OS.
