Unlike the other autists in this thread I actually have the controller. And I really like it. Definitely not a mouse 'replacement' but ita much more accurate than using a stick. With practice you can probably get it to comparable levels. Future of gaming? No to the hyperbole, but it can do things regular controllers suck at. Its really easy to browse with too. Worth the $50 easily

ive played l4d2, chivalry, risk of rain, and rocket league with it. i prefer the controller for risk of rain and meme league over m+kb. its decent with l4d2, needs practice tbh. its pretty shit for chiv. its really customizable though and you can make and download community templates for each game

I have one. Got one originally to play Rocket League.

Not sure if I missed a config at all, but the buttons on the back are absolutely fucking annoying and I have no idea how to turn them off. Didn't see an option to do so in the manage game/controller section at all.

Nothing returned up online for it either. Manage controller was forcing me to change it to another button on the keyboard instead of being able to just completely disabling it. Had to hold the controller like an idiot just to fucking play.

Said fuck it, and plugged back the 360 controller. Steam Controller just sits on my desk now.

I really enjoy it for a htpc. Windows 10 has a nice on screen keyboard, and I can go pretty fast with the touchpad.

Also if you enable the gyroscope for aiming splatoon-style, you can get really damn accurate, as well as reasonably control spray. Don't think anything will replace mouse and keyboard for anything competitive though.

All in all, it lets me play vidya and watch movies from my hammock which is what I got it for, so I'm pretty happy.

Yes, you can customize the layout whatever you desire. At the moment the only tool available for doing this is the steam client and must be runing, however it's just an generic HID device so third party apps or even an official one for using it without steam can come at any moment. BTW, if you're using linux the controller works fine right now but maybe you'll need to add an udev rule, most distros are releasing updates to make it work ootb.

It's pretty good. better than the old 360 controller i was using.

But you can tell the software is almost like in pre alfa stage. It does work as a regular mouse... mostly. if they ever get it ironed out for regular desktop use it could be amazing.

I use it mostly for shovel knight and the stick of truth though.

Anyone remember if it was going to be open source?

oh and it's dirty because i have big sweaty hands and i was using baby powder to keep it not slimy.

I bought the controller, it's pretty interesting.

I don't think it will replace the traditional controller or a mouse+keyboard, but sits in a spot between the two.

I tried playing some games designed for mouse and keyboard, took some practice. For example, Torchlight. It's definately playable, but I had to customize the controls a bit to my liking, like moving the mouse to the left touch pad, adjusting the sensitivity of the right click, so on, until I got something that works for me.

It's a cool concept, if you have $50 to splurge, why not, but it's not revolutionary.

My roomate has one. I haven't used it much but I like it and he likes it a lot and uses it constantly. Honestly it could easily be a mouse replacement for things that don't require extreme speed and accuracy (counter strike) I hope they become common. If they and steam machines become common I'd like to see what developers do with their unique features.

The make is cheap fucking plastic, buttons are awkwardly placed, it's one of the loudest things ever, and there's a constant annoying buzz from the haptic feedback.

It works, but not "$50" works. Stick to the Ouya controller.

analog sticks are worse for movement than the keyboard. with the analog stick, changing directions takes a while. first you're moving right fast, then you turn the stick left. instead of instantly going left, you first slow down moving right, then you stop moving and after that you slowly accelerate left.
with the keyboard, changing directions is instant, giving you a competitive advantage. digital > analog, only consoleplebs and >sports game players will disagree.

This is the thing that bugs me, people are still stuck in the 2000's when it comes to controller style. I've been wanting a controller with a trackball long before the steam controller was announced, but I would have had to order a custom job with no warranty, and I was a poorfag.

Now the steam controller is coming out, emulating a trackball, and I am so fucking hype. But most normalfags are "trackball wut".

But protop, don't buy Chinese gamepads, they're cheap and durable but the analog stick is often a digital one with 8 directions, and none in between

Not just that, the size of trackball you'd need would make the controller right-side heavy.
And not just that, ever had a trackball mouse? Remember having to clean those things? I'd expect the ball on a controller would be worse since your fingers would be on it the entire time.

I get how the right one is for aiming but the left one seems to be awkwardly stuck there.

If they moved the stick to the top left, shoved a good dpad where the stick was, and made it a matte/rubberized finish I'd buy one if only for the software aspect of it.

You realize why it was made right?
There are (about) 100 buttons on a keyboard + 5 standard ones on the mouse (left/right/middle/middle up/middle down). If we ignore keys that aren't used very often and movement we're still left with qertfg1234[tab][space][enter][shift][ctrl][mouse 1][mouse 2][middle mouse][mouse scroll up][mouse scroll down][esc][backspace], that's 22 keys in total ignoring shit like f keys and pmil/etc for misc menus.
There are about buttons 13 on the steam controller. 14 if you count pressing the analog stick.
Now if you add into consideration the pads and pressing them in specific places, then you have a shitton more buttons.

Sorry to break it to you but xbox isn't the standard. There is no standard. And the fact the analog stick isn't at the top doesn't suddenly make it unusable in every game.
And hey, if you hate it that much just use the pad as an analog stick.

Hands get clammy when stressed but grip etc isn't affected.

I expected the touch pad to get wet (kek) during long sessions but it didn't happen.

I have Dualshock 4, Xbone controller and the steam controller.

Pros:
Dualshock4: No dongles cause bluetooth, dpad, builtin battery
Steam: ease to remap, mousing, onscreen keyboard input, adjustable tactile feedback, paddles, battery life
Xbone: battery life, triggers, thumbstick placement, full windows support, headphones jack

Con:
Dualshock4: headphone jack won't work on windows, remapping not on the fly, abysmal battery life
Steam: Must have steam or it's emulating 360 controller, full use only possible through steam, not using bluetooth, hard to swap batteries, bulky.
Xbone: large wireless dongle sold separately, not using bluetooth.
