Totally agree, OP, been preaching that for years and no reason to stop. Windows 7 is the best OS Microsoft ever created, and it's sad to see how fast they've done nearly everything they can to discard it like a red-headed stepchild as the saying goes.
It's rock solid, it's stable, it's dependable, it has no functional issues that matter to most anyone, it has incredible support from the hardware manufacturers over the years, and it truly is an OS that lives up to the phrase "It just works."
We really do deserve a proper SP2 for it considering that if you do a clean installation from a piece of SP1 media right now, when you're done you'll end up downloading close to 2GB of updates and reboot several times before that installation is fully current with nothing left to update.
I use it daily, I have no intentions of using Windows 10 ever if I can help it, but I am getting a bit frustrated with the bullshit that Microsoft is now pushing on Windows 7 users with the retroactive telemetry updates and other things that are requiring me (and many others) to constantly be on the lookout for any updates that could sneak in and re-enable such things.
If they keep this up and piss me off past the point of no return, then I'll switch to Linux or OSX at some point. It's cheap, it's pathetic, and I would like to think these actions of trying to herd users into Windows 10 will come to an end at some point but honestly I don't think it ever will.
Windows 7 forever afaic, deal with it.
