I am confused. When I make a Frob object out of any of these names the one thing it does make on its own is an object with a .name

But I cant seem to get that one thing back out.

It checks for the first valid integer, namely ``1'' and use that as the input. The rest of the input is saved and then used as the input to the next cin, which is why you get 0.5 for the next input.

So just checking the return value isn't doing anything useful here.

anyway if you did this in your input:
1 2 3 4 5
cin >> int would pull 1 integer each time

you can use cin.clear() to reset it

When I do sizeof(char *) it returns 4, regardless of how long the string is.
C is truly amazing, being able to cram all those characters into 4 bytes.

Yeah that's kinda the point. It's a "fake" recursion, so it won't get caught by the compiler or memory manager.

When I was testing it out I routinely had to restart the X server because it would quickly jump to 20+GB ram usage.

Can have 32 bit pointers on a 64 bit system, Linux even defines such an ABI for x86_64 (called x32).
And it's a very good idea considering the majority of programs does not need a 64 bit address space, so saving space on all pointers (including being able to use absolute addr32 + register addressing modes which saves a significant amount of opcode space when referencing globals or statics) while having access to more registers and 64 bit arithmetic is very nice.

The solution is there, but my issue is the lack of complaint from the compiler when it just let 1.5 get mangled into an integer value of 1 without throwing an error.

You mean symbol=? instead of eq? ? I don't know if symbol=? is actually part of the standard, but symbol=? implies that it's only going to work on symbols, which is a way of making sure that the values being compared are both symbols (eq? is defined on all types). Similar predicates exist like char=?, string=?, or =. What's the easiest way to do this? right now I have it so it's literally just manually coded line-by-line, but I remember seeing things like populating all the fields of one object from another and such.

E.G.

are some of the returned fields
rather than have to set

The newer "Systems" languages being released / gaining traction tend to have features that make the programmer explicitly say "I'm taking control here and may make everything fubar" with default states disallowing or preventing operations. Every systems programmer has to say for actual work they use C or C++. It's the norm "Tried and trusted" default choice for performance or hardware level work.

D just seems to be going nowhere fast. It's a good idea just no adoption outside of the hobbyists. It actually has accomplished working at the bare metal / kernel level. It's got the same caveats as c++ though. If you're working at the level you have to implement the run time to make use of major features that distinguish it from c.

I want to make a 2D CAD program that can be embedded in a browser for a business I'm going to start. I haven't a clue about web development and all of my experience is with application development. I've been working on a problem for my algorithms class. A given string consisting of the characters "B" and "W", standing for "Black" and "White", respectively, represents a line of black/white tiles. All black tiles must be the the left of every white tile. I need to determine the minimum number of tiles to paint the other color in order to satisfy this constrain given any string. I think I've got it working, but I have no idea if the outputs for bigger strings are really the "minimum number" of repaints possible.

Give me a good example of an open source web browser game/tool developed using asm.js. All the ones I found sucked and had very slow performance (and weren't pretty). I found some guy's 2D web app he developed in javascript using jCanvas, but it was once again slow and he wasn't it even done with the thing yet.

They just make it so fucking hard to use without an IDE though.

Well I'm using atom at the moment, and I like it because it's /comfy/, I just wanted something very basic to get some basic 2d game knowledge.

A good course in a language should get you in the loop so the approach doesn't fuck with your brain (e.g. Haskell and Prolog, especially if you're coming from a C-like language), and get you deep enough into navigating language documentation that you can find ways to express ideas.

In the Dijkstra style solution, all you need to do is wait because there's never a deadlock. There's an implied queue, so there's never starvation. Problem is that the concurrency devolves into sequential execution.

OK, I am a dumbass.
I misread the documentation on try_lock() and got the return value backwards.
Made this mistake even when I knew that it would have been confusing ever since I first heard of the Test And Set type locks.
