Hey /g/.

I have a OnePlus One and I'm very happy with it. But I have two problems with it. It doesn't support 800 Mhz LTE, nor Band 20 4G. I asked my friend and he said i should be able to 'hack' them onto the phone. Is he joking? If not, how would I go about this?

The radio would have to support it already

So basically the limitation would have to be at the software level where using a different driver or setting would enable the freq

It could be software disabled, but manufacturers make phones for regions, each with their own specific bands. If a phone is definitely for one region I doubt you could tinker around to unlock it to work in another, since manfactuerers usually just tailor the hardware to the region, the bands supported are usually in the phones spec sheet.

having said that some phones have international models, like some galaxy models, they are quad band and pretty much work worldwide. for example some galaxy s4 minis are the international variant and others are not.

Yes, you can unlock some bands but LTE 2, 5, 12 and 20 are impossible to unlock.
