It's a purposefully flawed technology designed with planned obsolescence in mind.

You have two lightbulbs.

You leave one on for a year.

You leave the other one off.

After a year the one left on will be much dimmer than the one left off.

That's how amoled screens work.

Usage causes aging. A reduction in pixel brightness. It'll suffer from burn in and panel ununiformly.

OLED's best feature is that black pixels don't emit any light, and the white pixels are very bright. Meaning the contrast ratio is off the charts.

I've had an S3 since Late '12 came out and have used it EVERY DAY
The fade and burn is insane.
meanwhile my HTC Tbolt, iphone 3GS, ancient thinkpads and desktop/tv LCDs are still going strong, CCFL, or LED backlit.

SED/FED is OLED on steroids.
OLED has gradual fade from the LED polymers degrading from use (with color shift thank to blue ones being most unstable).

SED/FED never happened because of insurmountable longevity problems.

the result is that displays would suddenly start turning shit very fast, at an accelerating rate.
the patent litigation shit was a red herring, and the technology is unworkable with current economically manipulated materials.
