How does /g/ maintains their phone battery life? Do you only charge it when you think you have to? Do you charge when it goes below 20%? or do you just swamp it with a new battery?

I charge it at night regardless of how drained it is. My phone isn't shit so I can just drop in a new one when it starts to degrade.

Nothing you can do with Google play services sucking it 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You can force stop it but it only comes back later. You can turn off location, sync, all that other crap Google uses but it doesn't matter to Google Play Serivces. It wants that juice and it's going to take it. Greenify, amplify, whatever can't save you from Google play services.

how do you define usage?
It got dual sim so I use it for biz and private. Talking about 2 hours every day with it plus some surfing and reading emails.
What else would you do with it?

I use parametric radio induced battery conditioning. Put a microwave on the lowest setting (don't worry, this won't damage your phone, they emit a similar amount of energy when you make a call), set the timer for as many minutes as the battery has percent left before 100% (e.g. if it had 30% left, I'd set it for 70 minutes) and let it condition. Let it cool then continue using your phone.

This works especially well with a brand new phone, you can hyper energize the battery and get up to a 40% increase in capacity.

I start a mild panic when it gets below 60% I could swap it if I wanted, but I'm always near a charger, I still don't know why I get anxiety when it goes around 50%

Are you asking how to make sure your battery always holds a charge

Never let it reach 0% - 5% AND never let it reach 95% - 100%

Charge it to around 80% and don't let it go under 40%.

Small often charges will keep a low DoD and that is what you should be doing for li-ion battery in your smartphone. high DoD kills your battery much faster.

Also : in default "battery save" mode, you can decide which app has access to the internet when your screen is off. Simply put out any google services and you're good.

This is true.
BUT...
It is very impractical in reality and only makes sense to do it if your battery is extremely expensive and difficult to replace. In most phones you're better off just not giving a fuck and replacing it when the time comes.
