Alright /g/ here's a quick overview of my current situation:

I'm a computer science major, always had an interest in computers and have been decent with them, but haven't really gotten really deep into how things work. I have pretty basic experience in Java and C++ but as far as programming goes I'm very new. I want to really learn linux and was thinking of just flat out erasing OS X completely and installing Arch Linux and learning it as I go. Would this be a good idea or is there a different distribution that would be better? I'm not looking for any hand holding, just some advice on where to start.
