I am currently using Windows 7 alongside Debian on my machine, using Windows 7 for typical Windows things such as working from home (work as a sysadmin so RDP / SSH into places using private keys) and some gaming now and then.

Debian is used for personal stuff like just browsing the web and tinkering with shiz.

I am likely going to be "upgrading" to Windows 10 soon with the idea of keeping all the shit I don't want MS Botnet/NSA to see on my Debian install leaving Win10 exclusively for working from home and the odd bit of gaming.

Id go with 7, got a 8.1 cd for free and i had multiple problems with it mainly with the wifi being a major pain in the ass on 10.

Went back to 8.1 and it worked fine for a few months.Oneday it shat out on me, unplug replug, remove program, install again all came back with some device problem even though it said the device was working fine. After weeks i just upgraded to 10 an it magically fixed itself.

Why not use a VGA passthrough so you can run windows in a VM to game? That way you can just switch between OSs with monitor inputs rather than rebooting.

If you're planning on a future in it support do a dual boot to get familiar with both.
