A simple question
Thinking about fooling arroud with linux in VM
Is linux benefiting from being on an ssd as much as windows ? Or is it comfortable sitting on an HDD ?

loonix werks just fine on a hdd. i run my qemu gaymen windows with pci passtrough from a ssd for dat extra gaymen performance...

No it won't actually. Linux detects if you have an SSD installed, then does usleep() between successive read/writes to simulate the speed of a HDD.

It's a pretty ugly cludge, but all the Linux kernel developers are just hobbyists really, they either don't know how to code for modern hardware, or don't have the will to iron out all the bugs. If Linux runs too fast, the kernel literally starts to disintegrate.

Linux binaries in general tend to be much smaller, so SSDs aren't as important, but they still tend to make stuff like moving files a lot faster.
