mSATA uses the same physical connector as mPCIe, and has a screw hole on each side.
M.2 has a single screw semi-hole in the middle and has different connectors. That very well may be the sata-compatible connector, but that's not mSATA.

Didn't realize mSATA used two screws instead of one. That's definitely not the PCI-e connector of M.2 though. That's wider than what's used by those "gum-stick" drives like the new 950 Pro, etc.

It just looks wide because it's not very long.
That appears to be the "B and M" keying, which means it will fit either a B slot (PCIe x2 + SATA + USB) or an M slot (PCIe x4 + SATA).
