Hey /g/, how is the sound quality of minidisc? im really considering buying one for dirt cheap but i dont want to hear cassete quality.

It's digital quality.
Good luck finding media for it, though.
We used them at the radio station I work at, and we haven't bought new media in ten years.

Sharp 702 and 722 owner here. I haven't used it in ages. I mainly used minidisc recorders for binaural soundscape recordings. AWESOME quality as long as you stick to digital transfer

Why not just drop the act and grab a R55? Great DAC's, so-so headphone amps, and a shitty lossy codec at low bitrates
ATRAC was pretty bad, but at high bitrates it was fine
Though the ones that were able to record were the shit, lot'sa concerts were taped with them
Oh, this is about the Sony ones, I don't know how good were the ones by third parties

I have a sony livingroom minidisc player hooked up to my home sound system.

Works like a charm and it's easy to transfer music to the discs because it has usb connectivity

A plus is that those brightly coloured discs look pretty cool in the rack for them, and they are easy to handle compared to cd's
