They're just Clevo/Sager machines with Ubongo installed. Other places will sell you the same hardware sans OS for cheaper, last I looked into them.

I owned one that I got from Xoticpc.com. Their website is full of l33t vidya games stuff, but you can go to the Clevo section and configure one without the rice, if you like. Mine was just a plain gray laptop without even so much as a brand name on it. Ran Fedora on it, it was fine.

Though if you just want a cheap Linux machine go hang out in the Thinkpad thread. Cheaper and the keyboard is a lot better.

From the few reviews I've read, the seem to be of good build quality but terrible customer service. And that laptop in your pic is $100 cheaper with windows installation via sager themself. That is the 15.6" sager with a haswell chip in it. Sager makes a 1080p 15.6" laptop with gtx950M in it and i7 6700hq for $980.

System76 is just another brand trying to make money off of Clevo/Sager rebranding. The fact that they upcharge by $100-$250 for the same product with the same specs and a FREE OS is a slap in the face imo.

I would prefer the Thinkpad not for the meme but because they make good small laptops.

I don't want a damn 15" with a 1366 x 768 screen. Since Clevo / Sager are aimed at gaming, they don't have too many choice in small form factor.

There is a couple of nice things about aystem76.
They are selling linux as the poor mans windows like dell, they are all in on this.
They select hardware that works and sometimes they even write their own drivers.

They are the macbooks of linux. If you want something powerful, pretty and with backing to run linux, they are for you. If you want the cheapest possible then look somewhere else.
