Why do people hate php? Everywhere i asked i get the same answers "it's shit compared to other languages" "makes other languages look good" ">php >good"

I can't make a decent comparison because i didnt use other languages for server-side scripting. I never needed to, there's tons of jobs for php devs, and in my 10 years as a dev, i never felt the need to switch.

So /g/ whats the problem with it? : I

it's because of all the weird quirks and flaws. php isn't as cleanly designed as other languages.
it works just fine as long as you have a good framework with enough abstraction to work around these issues. nothing wrong with using laravel.

#1, i have never used goto statements in >10 years as a php dev
#2 tangled or unstructred code can be done on pascal.
#3 why does it "encourage" writing un-understandable code?

dude i really havent ever used types of a variable, there's tostring() and php does a good job with reading integers/floats even if they're converted to string : I

in theory, yeah, you have less hands-on approach regarding numbered vars, but in practice, there's no fucking difference.

and tbh, like 4-5 years ago i looked at .net as an alternative just to see what it provides. what remained in the memory was that in php you can have a more "closer-to-metal" approach vs. the "learn all the methods" that goes with the .net (or javascript which i fucking despise alltogether because you dont use logic but memory)

I guess it comes down a bit to the IDE you're using as well.
Something I quite like about the OO languages is that remembering the method names themselves isn't really as important as knowing what you can do with them, then so long as you have an IDE that will present them to you.

i get you man, and really at first the response to why php sucks were "because any entry-level programmer could learn it, thus it sucks cause it's easy and doesnt require complex alghorithms to create a user-to-databse query".

in theory maybe they're right, maybe it should require differential equations to compare one number to another, but in practice, look at the job market, most seeked are php-devs and java-devs (because of the mobile apps [which also require php-devs to create the server-side]).
and i dont understand when p-eople say "well try working with big data with php."

big data storage is a database, which mysql and caching systems handle very well.. it honestly feels like people just say "it's shitty cause it's easy"
might as well suggest assembly..

}

Since "a" is non-zero, the result of the inner if is true, so the result of the if depending on it is true. It makes perfect sense.
