Tape is weird and probably expensive nowdays. Only enterprise mission critical backup systems would use it.

Get Mission Critical HDD's, slap your data on them, then store them some place dry, and insulated from temps.

SSD has data retention of only couple of years.

Would go with archival grade DVD/BR.

I'm using HDDs for long term storage but one did die on me. It seems HDDs in storage have higher failure rate than those kept spinning.

It's not expensive, it's the cheapest storage method as it has the best $/MB ratio. And it's much more durable than DVD/Blue-Ray. That being said it's mostly only used in big enterprises that have lots of data and can afford an automated backup machine that works with tapes.

I have HDD's from 1998 that still work perfectly fine and all my audio files play fine.

Anyway, the best form of long term archival storage is still tape drives at the moment, but that's not really a viable solution for a consumer.

As a consumer, it's best to just build a RAID 5/6. That way, if one or two drives die, you can just swap them out without losing everything.
