In my honest opinion working in the IT field, certs are fuckin useles and only prove you can remember a lot of shit. They do not prove you can think critically and solve problems that require you to think outside the box. However companies seem to be obsessed with people having certs. In my experience most people with certs simply got them to get the job a self taught IT professional with a bit of schooling is worth a lot more than a cert whore.

Oh for sure, everything goes through HR now a days man, they have no clue about IT shit but if you have a diploma/degree and certs you'll most likely move to the front. But if your autism kick in during the interview you may still be fucked.

It's only useful to get pass HR managers, and get the interview.

But Work experience and have good Social Contract/Network with people in IT is infinitely more important.

Funny, my experience has been the exact opposite. Most companies -require- certification. Experience alone only goes so far, but if you want to play with the expensive toys and get paid the big money, you need at least a bachelors degree and enterprise level certification.

This is coming from someone who makes 130k before taxes and works for a middle-sized company in California. I've been in the tech industry for over 8 years. I've got a lot of contacts in the tech industry from other companies and I can tell you, if you think you can bullshit your way into a high paying job with serious responsibilities, you're kidding yourself.

But if all you want is a job paying under 50k a year where you're just a code monkey or a bench tech, then sure, you could get that no problem with the right references and only A+ certs.

This may amaze you, but memes aren't always true. You can live comfortably in California on half that and most people do, unless you're trying to live in the city. Many of the suburban townships that surround the cities are very affordable places to live if you don't mind living in the cuts.

Honestly, you just have to demonstrate you can deliver on projects/work load. But I will warn you now set a precedence for work load. Meaning do not give 100% at work because you will be burnt out and suicidal within a year. Instead give like 30-50% effort so you have free time throughout the week and if you do need to finish something suddenly you can burst up to 100% and get it done making you look amazing. And so far i've gotten 4 promotions in the past 2 years working like this, and they keep telling me how amazing I am. The key is being able to bullshit, that guy from cali is just upset because he has to work his ass off all day everyday, probably has a mortgage and kids and a wife who hates him rofl.

Yes they are valuable in helping you GET a job in higher pay grades but if you don't actually know the material they won't save you.

Experience + Certs will you get most of the non-management jobs that aren't specific to CS grads. Networking and knowing people also puts that resume to the top of the pile.
