It wasn't a horrible app, I remember using it back in the day, but it wasn't really a good one either.

I used to use msn a lot when everybody used it.
I was always in contact with people but then I spent a couple of years talking to people and everyone left MSN.

It's built-in, works out of the box provided you sign in with a MS account. Seems somewhat inspired by Yosemite's sms+iMessage service, but instead of one app like Skype, you have 4: Messaging, Skype Video, Phone and People. And you can't see who is online and who isn't.

It's a clusterfuck, but I expected no less from the company pushing an OS with two separate interfaces for settings.

To everyone else, I think the fake names thing started dying in the MySpace days. People wanted to fuck and they weren't trying to get with people with goofy nicknames. It was still a thing but people started doing it less.

I think especially twitter people started doing this when they realized the power of being their own brand.

There were so many I can't remember them all.

I really enjoyed FlyFF though. After that "Gold" update though they pretty much killed it. Most servers are dead.

This only works if you are using an alias and your alias is either famous/infamous, or is known to associate with a group that is semi-famous/infamous. The power of an IRL name on the other hand only works if you are at least a minor celebrity or important. So basically the same as every other large social platform.
