Currently university student for Software Engineering, looking to get into mobile development. Can any of you give me some tips on how and where to begin?

Probably going to be doing this on Android, since the it will be in general easier in terms of cost etc. But also planning on moving the app to iOS if i ever 'release'. Currently have colleagues ready to start working with me, but want to have more info on this kind of stuff before we start going full steam ahead with out current designs

Already know java, and already know how to make somewhat simple/complicated software. More info on maybe guides etc would really help me.
