I think something is very wrong with my audio on Ubuntu 12.04

So every time I attempt to play any sort of sound or audio file, it does not work, that including those from websites. It used to work fine until around one week ago. Any advice?

even Windows is more reliable at this point. At least now I don't have to spend an hour digging up the right HDMI settings to watch a movie on my television set.

The problem with you people is that you spout some problem that is not common and instead of blaming yourself you blame the distro.

Trust me there are problems on Linux, but the pros of actually owning my system and knowing what is going on outweigh the "ease" of use Windows have.

I never ran into a problem that I couldnt solve on Linux, the same can't be said of Windows.

As for my problem not being common, google shows over a million (~1,140,000 ) results for the query "linux hdmi not working", most having to do with audio it looks like, and seem very similar to the problem I had to deal with. It wasn't impossible, and I did fix it, but I realized how often I ran into similarly time consuming issues with unintuitive solutions on a regular basis and decided it wasn't worth it anymore. Sorry, bud.

Stop using the term GNU/Linux.

You obviously don't even care about software freedom if you think a small problem with HDMI is enough of an issue that you will hand cuff yourself to using Windows as you main OS.
