>>51044394That's okay. When I was in college, I saved up and bought components for a sweet AMD system. Probably the K5 (Pentium competitor. Yes, I said Pentium).
I got everything together, dropped the CPU in, and got so impatient that I powered it up before setting the CPU jumpers.
See, back in those days, you had to set the CPU voltage and FSB speed using jumpers.
When I turned it on, nothing happened. I quickly powered down, studied the jumper guide carefully, and set them correctly. Powered it up. Nothing.
I killed the CPU.
Of course, I lied about the exact sequence of events and got a replacement. Man, things are so much better these days.
This may also have still been the era when the PSU cable to the Mobo was in two, unkeyed halves. If you plugged them in incorrectly you'd fry the mobo.
Also, every case was poorly cut (probably stamped/punched), leaving edges sharp as fuck. You could barely look at a case without cutting your hands.
