I have a friend with a mechanical keyboard. Blue switches, it's pretty nice to type on, a lot more so than my rubber dome keyboard.

I know this doesnt solve your problem or help you too much but most keyboards have a little nub or bump on their f and h keys iirc (Im on mobile atm)which helps position your hands in the dark.
